IKEA was one of the first companies to offer their own Secure Internet Connection (SIC), known as the Ike SSL. The Ikea website states that they provide the SIC for customers in Sweden, United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands. In contrast, Cisco and Juniper both offer SICs, but in different countries. In addition to the Ikea SSL, the Ikea system includes a Secure Gateway. The Ikea website states that, as it is a part of the Ikea SecureNet, Cisco and Juniper use the Ikea Secure Gateway to secure customer data on Ikea's network.
IKE is an Ethernet Security Association (ISA) that is an Internet-based standard for Internet security. The Ike Secure Gateway is an IPsec VPN gateway, which allows secure VPN connections to be established between an external or internal networks, provided by an SIC. IKE encrypts traffic and provides IPsec security for both the private and public addresses. Ike SecureGateway works with both ISAKM and ISAKmp and is based on the NISKMS-SID-EAST-ALPN-CISCO-STD.
In addition to the Ikea SSL, Ikea is also using Cisco's ISAKmp to protect their customers and their data from outside interference. As it uses the same Cisco IOS Software, customers are assured of security and reliability with this service. However, the Ike Secure Gateway does not provide any additional protection beyond what is offered by ISAKm and ISAKmp.
